My Plan Start Date Doesn't Match My Academic Calendar — Which Date Applies?

Updated 2 weeks ago | Frequently Asked Questions

Your tuition insurance applies to losses based on the Policy Effective Date shown on your Declaration of Coverage — not automatically based on your school's published academic calendar. This means the date you provided at the time of purchase determines when your plan begins.

If that date is incorrect, it's important to get it corrected before your term starts.

What is the Policy Effective Date?

The Policy Effective Date is the date your plan begins, as listed on your Declaration of Coverage document. It is set based on the information you provided when you purchased your plan.

Your policy applies to losses resulting from events that occur while the policy is in effect and that are associated with a covered term — subject to the plan's terms, conditions, and exclusions.

What if my Policy Effective Date is wrong?

If you notice your Policy Effective Date does not match your actual term start date, contact us as soon as possible at 877-794-6603 — and always before the first day of classes.

Changes to your plan's effective date must be made before the term begins. Once classes start, the date cannot be adjusted.

What if I entered a start date that's different from my school's official calendar?

Your plan is based on the date listed on your Declaration of Coverage, not your school's published term start date. If those two dates differ, your plan may not align with the term you intended to protect.

To avoid any gap in protection, always verify that the start date on your Declaration of Coverage matches your actual first day of classes before your term begins.
